Sew What

Lately I've been going ape-shit on my sewing machine for no reason whatsoever and have managed to produce some semi-wearable wares.  I don't feel well and I need to pack for my flight to So Cal to see my hunny bunny and whilst it is windy and cold as all get out here it is a sunny 75 degrees down south so I am packing shorts against my better judgment.  It's 11:30am and I'm still in bed, why would anyone work if they didn't have to?

Here's my shizz, woop woop!

A skirt that I have since removed the pocket from.

A backpack that I pray will not snap under the enormous weight of the snacks i plan on filling it with.

A little pin cushion my mom actually made but she wants me to show it to everyone...so look.

A maxi skirt that I feel so ethnic in.

And a Christmas apron that makes me feel so matronly, shorter next time.

Our lovely love story

So while making my wedding website I was forced to recap the journey from just friends to future life partners.  Long story short, he was best friends with one of my best friends, we ran into each other occasionally, he ended up a barista at my fave starbucks, we had class together in college, we bumped into each other one day & ended up going on a date.  The rest is history, up until he proposed via a 10-stop 4-city scavenger hunt in which he enlisted the help of his brother and sister to help set it up and my 2 best friends who drove me around.  It ended in the restaurant we had our first date in with all of our friends and  family around.  HERE is how he got me to say yes.  Documented by his best man/brother, I have yet been able to watch it without crying up until the last 40 seconds where all I can do is laugh at his sister.

Due Do's and Won't Don'ts

I've noticed lately that my life is full of much more "rather nots" than "won'ts".  And I know my lack of conviction comes from my phobia of upsetting or inconveniencing people, choosing something unhealthy, or doing something that may seem minor now but may have some ginormous impact on the world later.  For instance, I will not cook with ground meat of any kind and I will not eat any cased meat, lunch meat, pretty much anything that is not chicken breast which I use so rarely.  BUT, if I'm at someone's home and they've made a meal with any of these things in it I will swallow it down (I don't chew for fear of the texture making me puke).  If I could make a list of things that I absolutely would never do based solely on what I want, or don't want in this matter, and not taking into account future ramifications.

NEVER
- Eat meat (Meet your meat)
-Steal (This is NEVER okay in my book...EVER)
-Cook brown rice (I hate it but it's all I make)
-Wear BRAND NEW shoes (I'm a shoe freak, but I hate breaking new shoes in)
-Go to the gym (Hate it)
-Respond to people on fb (Text me if you wanna talk)
-Answer my cell phone/return calls (See above)
-Chat with people in lines (I'm not interested in hearing about your experience with my product)
-Eat off of plates (In my world everything is eaten out of a bowl or off of a paper towel)
-Use plastic bags (I have an obsession with reusable bags)
-Use my sewing machine (It's so much more fun by hand, but also sloppier)

Oh Bobby boy

I was just sitting in my recliner, "pinning while hungry" and thinking about all the things I would love to eat right now and then I remembered the best meal of my life.  My best friends and I have started a tradition of going to Vegas every year for one reason or another and this year was to celebrate getting jobs right out of college.  So before we even researched hotels we researched the menu at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill and promised ourselves that we would order whatever we wanted.  It's hard for me to even type this I want it so bad, so bad that I've even been convincing my fiance that we should do Vegas for a honeymoon :)  SO!, we make reservations to come at lunch and we both order apps, I get the Goat cheese queso fundido with blue corn tortilla chips (AMAZING!) and she ordered the crispy bacon hash brown  quesadilla with a fried egg on top, there are no words to describe it.  Between the 2 appetizers for 2 people we were stuffed before the entrees.  We both ordered the Mesa Burger with southwest fries.  Everything about this burger was perfect, and i DO NOT eat ground beef but I had to make an exception.  The cheese, the horseradish sauce, the bun.  Everything was beyond wonderful, OH! annnnd I added spicy mango glazed bacon to my burger which took it to a whole new level.  The fries were perfectly seasoned and so damn good (I thank Anthony Bourdain for convincing me of this meal).  The cactus pear iced teas were "aight".  Oh man....Best meal.  So comforting.

Dilly dally dilettante

I am not one to suffer from any type of panic attack or anything like that but I get these little spells where I cannot slow my heart rate down for the life of me and then I start freaking out BECAUSE I'm freaking out and can't figure out why and then I remember it's because I drank coffee...and today, also half of a soda (which I NEVER drink).  I so desperately want to love coffee, I feel like it brings so many people together.  My future mother-in-law has 4  coffee pots and exposed me to my very first and most likely last cappuccino.  Alas, I will be a decaf coffee and herbal tea drinker until I die.  I'm okay with that though.  People assume I'm earthy and care about the "poisons" I put in my body.  Little do they know that I avoid caffeine because at 3 in the morning it tries to convince me that I can do the alterations on my one wedding dress, no problem.

No Weigh!

With the wedding date slowly creeping towards us as well as the New Year, the family has decided to start a friendly (and healthy) weight loss competition.  Mom, Dad, Shad, and myself are all competing in one month increments for total weight loss percentage.  Today is day one and so far everyone is doing good.  I went for a run, mom went for a walk and Dad's going to the gym tonight.  I recently lost about 8 pounds and then happily found 3 of them in Thanksgiving so the goal is to be down about 15 pounds before the wedding.  I'm a solid 140 and really don't have much fat on me so the pounds are more just something to shoot for not something I'll cry over if it doesn't happen.  So, I have been put in charge of dinners which is perfect because my family loves oil, salt, butter, fat, canned food, boxed food, all other things I choose not to cook with.  This will be a very interesting experience and good practice for the married life.  Let the games begin!

When it rains, it pours.

Happy December 1st to all!  Strangely, it is the first of December and this is the nicest weather we have had in a very long time.  Really warm winds which probably means there's some tropical storm running rampant somewhere else but never-you-mind about that.  Today's task was to get an idea of what kind of wedding shoes I want that don't cost $1,300 (Bella Swan I'm looking at you).  I have a reputation as a bit of a shoe collector and since I will have a short wedding dress people are expecting big things from me.  I had originally planned to just wear my sisters light pink J. Simpson pumps but I'm almost positive that half of the female attendants will be more concerned with my shoe choice and less attentive to my vows. So, to please everyone, including my inner diva, I have taken on the task of jazzing up my own shoes.  I will have custom footwear and a custom dress on that most glorious day.  In the meantime, I would really like to find these completely out of stock rain boots.
